Color Documents

D-M scans, stores, and prints color documents, including transparencies, prints, negatives, and oversized originals. Our flatbed color scanners scan originals up to 11 x 17 inches. The drum scanners handle documents up to 40 inches wide by several feet long while our slide scanner automatically scans 35 mm slides.

Negatives, Transparencies, and Slides

We scan negatives either as reverse color (positives) or as true color negatives. We scan transparencies such as 35mm slides or overhead projector frames, either as reverse color negatives or as true color images.

Since negatives and 35mm slides are small, we scan them using at least 300 dots per inch (dpi) or higher resolution. Our equipment scans at up to 1200 dpi, and with software enhancements push the resolution to 2400 dpi. Larger originals will be scanned at lower resolution if storage space is an issue, or at high resolution if image quality is critical.

Printing

We use inkjet printers for production of color images, with resolutions from 300 dpi to 2400 dpi. Their color palettes provide from 16 to more than a million colors. We can print up to 20 color images per hour onto a variety of media, including normal paper, high-gloss and photographic papers, and transparencies.

Storage

We normally "burn" color images onto CD-ROMs or DVDs for storage. If you are using a database package that allows you to view images and documents simultaneously, such as CIS-FT or Concordance, we will place the color images into directory structures and provide indices so that the new color images will be integrated into the imagebase for the case.
